About

Powenique

Meet Jaylynn

Jaylynn Powe is an emerging, self-taught artist and the founder of Powenique. Her paintings explore Black identity and womanhood through the color blue, using blue surrealist figures who each wear a gap, a symbol of uniqueness and a reminder to stay grounded through life's ups and downs. Powe studied Art & Design at Louisiana State University and Contemporary Art History at Santa Reparata International School of Art. Still developing her voice and medium, she experiments across acrylic, tempera paint, magazine paper, and foam clay, letting each material serve the story a piece is trying to tell. Through her work, she hopes to encourage others to reflect fully on identity and what it means to be a Black woman.
